Why you can absolutely let go of feeling like you aren’t doing enough at the beginning of the year.
In the last few years I have noticed a growing trend in the way a lot of folx are talking about the New Year. I have seen a big rejection of the old phrase “New Year New You” especially in the wellness space. I have heard a lot of my witchy friends say that the New Year actually starts on the Winter Solstice while others claim it doesn’t start until we begin Aries season in March. And then there are the folx who follow the Lunar calendar and will be celebrating on January 29th this year, which isn’t too far off from the Human Design New Year.
But before I get to that, I just wanna explain why January 1st is giving so many of us “not feeling like the New Year” vibes and why it can be really hard to start anything new at this time.
On December 31st, the Sun moved into gate 38, the gate of Opposition, also known as “The Fighter.” If you look in your own chart, you can see it is located in the Root Center and connects to gate 28, the gate of struggle, in the Splenic Center. Whether you have Gate 38 defined or not, we are all getting the neutrino stream of this opposition/fighter energy beamed down on us from the Sun until January 5th when the sun moves into Gate 54, Ambition/Drive.
So right at the start of the year we are faced with this theme of wondering what our purpose is, feeling pressure to take some kind of action to make our lives mean something. Then we get hit with the feeling that we need to take more action so that we don’t fail this purpose. But as I always tell my clients, we shouldn’t ever take action or make decisions when we are feeling pressured. Only when we are in a state of clarity.
So then on January 11 we get slammed with the mysterious “Why?” of it all from gate 61 and then on January 16th we are confronted with how we are limited and unable to make any of this happen with gate 60.
Not until January 22nd, when the sun moves into Gate 41, the gate of Imagination, do we get the energetic signal that it is actually time to start our engines and get some clarity on what feels most aligned for us to bring into our reality this year. Gate 41 is correlated with a part of our genetic code called the “start codon.” Because before anything can truly exist in our physical reality, we have to first imagine it. We get the idea, the thought, the wondering, the daydream and then we take actions and then it becomes reality. The iPhone didn’t exist before Steve Jobs dreamed it up.
My teacher Karen always describes this time of year as if we are all gardeners. We are looking through our seed catalogs, sketching out our garden plans, imagining how we want it to look, what kinds of veggies and fruits and flowers there could be…and then we order the seeds. We don’t actually start them in trays until March. But we have laid the plan and set the intention for what we will be harvesting in 8-9 months.
So as we near the Human Design New Year on January 22nd, can you allow yourself to just feel the pressure to get things started without actually taking any action? What stories and conditioning comes up for you there?
Can you funnel that need to act into deeply imagining your dreams and desires? Imagine where you will be in 8-9 months…what will your garden be like? What kinds of seeds/intentions do you need to order now so that you have the garden of your dreams then?
Since studying Human Design and learning about this Start Codon energy in gate 41, I have released the feeling like I am gonna miss the New Year train if I don’t get started on things right away. Instead I allow myself to continue to linger in this liminal transition space between last year and this one. I collect my seed catalogs and continue to reflect on what did and didn’t work in last year’s garden. Maybe I will try something new this year. Maybe I will continue to cultivate the old tried and true veggies. Maybe I will plant a tree or a berry bush! And maybe I will leave some space in my garden without any plan so that the Universe can bring me something completely unexpected and delightful.
I am wishing the same relaxed vibes for all of you too.
As always, I am sending you so much love and wishing you a most blessed New Year no matter when you celebrate it!
